When you walk into the front entrance of Shaffer's Farm Store, your greeted by a long case of the some of the best looking cuts of meats you’ll see anywhere. This ain’t your rinkydink meat counter at the Wally World; the site of all the great cuts of meats gets your taste buds ready for some great barbecue.
After you go through the swinging doors take a right and go up to the counter and place your order. On the day we visited, one of our party had the brisket and homemade sausage, another had the rib plate and I had the 3 meat combo (ribs, brisket and bbq pork). There are many sides to choose from but we had ranch potato salad, barbecue beans & coleslaw. All the meats were smoked well and tender. The only complaint we had was that they were a little stingy on the sauce. If you wanted more it was a .25 cent charge for about 1 to 1-1/2 ounce portion. (Edit: This has changed, sauce is now free and on table in bottles) The sizes of the meat portions were very generous and the side items were served in 6 oz. Styrofoam cups. None of us went away hungry.
All of the meals were served in cardboard trays and Styrofoam containers, so presentation was what you would expect in most good “Mom & Pop” barbecue restaurants. Soft drinks were available in bottles and sweet and unsweet tea can also be ordered.
Since the meal portions were so large we didn’t do desserts this trip. They had some great looking homemade cakes and pies available and next time we’ll give them a try.
