Amish Country and Beyond

Ethridge, Tennessee - Back on December 6, 2012, my friend Bobby Hicks and I went out and did some free stylin with our cameras.  Bobby lives just north of Leoma, Tennessee, so I stopped by his place and picked him up.  We continued on north looking for an old barn that he had shot before.  Prior to stopping at the barn we decided to swing through the Sandy Hook community and shoot some images of the creek, a 100+ year old bridge, various barns and other interesting sites.
During our session along the creek bank we had a couple of local folks stop and talk with us.  Everyone was interested in what we were doing, but were really friendly people.  They were excited that we were there shooting pictures and told us all about the history of the area and how Sandy Hook came about.
We left Sandy Hook and then stopped by the barn Bobby has shot previously.  We got several nice shots of it and then decided to go have lunch.  Bobby had never eaten at Shaffer's Texas BBQ and Meat Market, so I introduced him to the culinary delight that is run by the Shaffers.  He was duly impressed and decided to add Shaffers to his list of great places to eat in Lawrence County Tennessee.  I have a review of Shaffer's here Shaffer's Texas BBQ and here Shaffer's Texas BBQ - A Re-Visit.
After we ate, we journeyed on south to Ethridge, Tennessee which is home to a large Amish community.  As many of you might know they do not like to get their picture taken and will discourage you if you try to take a shot.  We were sensitive their wishes and chose not to shoot any of the people but did get some nice pictures of their farms and school house.  Additionally, we shot several pictures at a couple of places of business located on Hwy 43.
We had a great day of enjoying our hobby of photography and our friendship.  We're planning more photographic excursion in the future.

(Originally published at The Quad-Cities Daily, www.quadcitiesdaily.com)
Tuscumbia, Alabama – Recently the Shoals Chamber of Commerce held a Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Chester’s Drawers Artistic Furnishings.  “All our items are created or refurbished by a Southern Artist and many of them can be personalized,” said owner Kandy Williams.  “And, we also do custom creations upon customer’s request.”
Chester’s Drawers is located in historic downtown Tuscumbia at 108 East 5th Street, where they are one of several interesting boutique-style shops.  They are within walking distance of the many downtown attractions including Spring Park.
When asked how she came up with the name of her business, Kandy said “Many years ago the term for chest of drawers was incorrectly pronounced as Chester’s Drawers; therefore, we felt it was an appropriate name to indicate the uniqueness of our shop.”
Chester’s Drawers is a locally owned and operated small business and is proud to be a member of the Shoals Chamber of Commerce and part of the Tuscumbia Downtown community.
